White grain-like things on scalp and in hair?

I have these tiny white grain-like things on my scalp and in my hair. They look exactly like little granule of sugar. I thought it was dandruff first, but I've read that dandruff is more flaky. I have no idea what it is. Most of the time they're connected to the root of the hair, so when a hair falls off, it comes off with it too. Is there anyway of getting rid of it?

Trust me it's not head lice, you would definitely know. What it might be is just a dry scalp. Try head and shoulders or a moisturizing shampoo that removes build-up. When you shampoo really work it in your hair then throughly rinse. As for when a piece falls out with a white thing on it, I just think that the hair might have taken a small piece of skin with it. Also check how long you've been using a new hair product, that might be what's causing it.

It sounds more like a dry scalp. EVERYONE confuses dandruff with a dry scalp. Dandruff is gray. A dry scalp is white.

Try to moisturize and if you can, go a day between bathing. You don't really need to wash your hair daily.

Headlice isn't white--the eggs can be, but usually the tell-tale sign of headlice is black "stuff" that comes off when you sleep and on white clothing (most apparant on white). You will NOT have eggs without the lice.

sounds like louse eggs otherwise known as nits - infestation of lice - depends on duration but nits can grow out with hair before hatching- you should treat for lice

you know sometimes dandruff its not always in flakes...so its a possibility its dandruff.....i fit really itches then its lice

just wash your hair thoroughly and scrub ur scalp....wash ur hair like that every 2 days it should help

Well sorry but it really does sound exactly like head lice. But if you say its not then I'll take your word for it. So, you need to consult your physician. It could be some sort of parasite. Seek your doctors advice on what steps to take to get rid of it. It could very well be just a rather dry scalp, but really its better to be safe than sorry.

It sounds to me like if it was head lice you would know. You wouldn't be able to stop itching. It could be something as simple as maybe your not getting your shampoo and conditioner completely rinsed off when you shower and its building up and causing the effect of "grain-like" deposits. It could also just be dry scalp. I would suggest using a clairyfing shampoo and a deep conditioner and see if that helps.
